What is SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism)?

An SNP (pronounced "snip") refers to a variation in a single nucleotide—the basic building blocks of DNA—at a specific position in the genome. Human traits are largely determined by the unique combination of SNPs inherited from one's parents. Common examples of traits influenced by SNPs include predispositions such as "tendency to gain weight" or "alcohol tolerance."

This test analyzes 350 specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)—inherent variations in your DNA obtained from a saliva sample—to assess your genetic predisposition to 114 conditions and traits, including major diseases such as cancer, atherosclerosis, and dementia, as well as drug response profiles. (As of June 2024, the number of analyzed traits has been expanded.)

This test assesses your genetic risk for esophageal and head & neck cancers based on variations in alcohol-metabolizing enzyme genes, combined with a lifestyle questionnaire. Using real-time PCR to analyze DNA from a blood sample, we evaluate specific SNPs associated with alcohol-related cancer susceptibility.
